Troy bilt sells snow blowers, and changes models every year. This is one of the "squall" series. The impeller in these things is made of an axle with flimsy sheet metal tack welded at each end, and a strip of rubber tire screwed onto it.
Once the tack weld breaks, the impeller is shot.
Looking at their website, my 2010's impeller is "no longer available"
Most other models, also "no longer available"
A FEW of the newer models, are still there, but for $147.
Yeah, you got it - it's tin, almost impossible to weld properly, and it's discontinued. Too bad. Boo hoo...
IF they don't discontinue it, you can have the privelege of shelling out $147 for a replacement part, plus tax, plus shipping - hey, about $175 - and you get to assemble the rubber tires and sheet metal screws yourself, if you also replace those the bill is about $250 - and if someone does it for you, it will cost about another $75 in labor...
Bloody steep price to fix a single part for a $275 snow thrower!
So, the old Troy Bilt stocked parts for 40 years and made them in Upstate New York, if I recall right.
The NEW Troy Bilt prices parts so you won't bother to fix their disposable equipment, then obsoletes said parts in a year or two.
Long and short? If you buy it, best to think of it as a piece of disposable equipment.
