I lived in an outbuilding in the middle of a garden with trees and my landlord's horrible woodpile...or rather his rat pile. Tired of his useless trapping efforts, I bought and used several types of sonic repellers which finally helped me solve my problem. They also worked for the raccoons, opossums and other critters that bunked under and around my house. Finally I bought this one which I found to be the best for me. They all claim to be inaudible to humans although I can hear a sound, especially with the ones that plug into the wall and use the wiring. The sound didn't bother me, but it bothered one woman at work a lot. Most people didn't hear anything. I found this one to be the quietest and also the most powerful of the ones I tried. I aimed this device at the source of any sounds (nighttime gnawing or scratching) and they would go away. Mice and rats would go more quickly, sometimes immediately. Larger animals might try to stick it out for a day. However, they also sometimes showed up in a new corner of the house after some time. I would turn the device that way and resolve the issue. Later I bought more than one and stayed pretty much alone for a change! I have recommended these to many people including the Orkin man who didn't want to hear about it.
