ProSeries Round Frame Pool 16'x48" Review

Last summer we enjoyed a Summer Escapes pool 16' x 48".
Upon filling it for this 2013 summer season, it developed a leak. It was cheaper to buy a whole new pool at Walmart than to piece meal a liner and some parts to go along with it. So we bought an Intex for this year. Structurally, both brands are the same. The biggest and most frustrating difference is the filter system. The Summer Escapes had a built in skimmer that worked great and was much less messy to deal with filter changing. The Intex pool doesn't even come with a true skimmer, just a little hole below the surface by a few inches so it doesn't suck in the floating surface debris. The output line on the S.E. pool was directed so that it came out right along the side of the pool wall, creating a circular motion constantly around the pool and then the floaters were sucked into the skimmer. The Intex output line does not shoot the water out along the side of the pool wall, it just goes out to the middle. It pivots a little but you can't get it to flow along the pool wall to create a circular motion. And even it if did, there is not a true skimmer area that will suck the floaters in. At this point, I will not get an Intex again unless they correct this. It creates alot more time of cleaning the pool. I also don't care for the way the filter container is designed. First off, it takes ground space. The SE pool does not as it attaches to the location of the skimmer. With the Intex, you end up loosing enough water to make the ground area around it messy just to do a filter change. Also, the S.E. ladder is better in that the steps do not have ridges on the rungs that are uncomfortable to step on. I'm not even going to set the Intex ladder up. I actually saw my friends ladder and she commented on how much it hurts to step on. I got home and looked at my SE ladder and there are no ridges. I would say that the quality of the ladders are probably the same. I did buy a $300 ladder last year that is more durable and lockable, however, it is a pain to try and get out of the pool, so I stick with the light-weight, easy removal ladder. And though I have not actually pulled out the vacuum that comes with the Intex, I think it's the type that only works with a water hose attached to it. The SE pool could be used with a water hose too, but it also came with the fixtures to hook it up to the skimmer and filter it out. I bought a Baracuda Ranger vac cleaner and have not been able to figure out how to make it work with the Intex. Love the water, but not liking the pool filter cleaning system at all. Gonna keep my eyes open for Walmart to put an SE pool on sale and grab it!
