Turf Builder Pacific Northwest Grass Seed Mix - Quantity 6 Grass Seed Review
This mix, formulated for the cool Pacific Nortwest, contains a blend mostly made up of Perennial ryegrass (PRG), fine fescue, and turf type Tall Fescue (TTTF). PRG provides fast germination, usually within 5-7 days, while the TTF fills in slowly over the next 2 to 6 weeks. The fine fescue tends to do well in shady areas. It is definitely a great blend for the PNW, but how about other areas? The major downside of PRG is that it is not very heat/drought tolerant, and will struggle to survive the summer heat in most areas outside the northern 1/3 of the USA. It is also susceptible to grey rot fungus, although newer cultivars are much more resistant. Since it also has TTTF, this might not be a problem -- provided you can irrigate, which is what you will need to do if you want to have a good lawn after July 15. Note also that Scotts coats it seed with a moisture retaining layer that helps it germinate without as much watering after seeding. I have found that this helps a lot, particularly with perennial rye, where a few days of good luck (and weather) is all you need. In the right place, for the right the purpose, this is an excellent seed. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Scotts Lawns 18284 3-Lbs.
